My son has loved to gaze in mirrors since he was born... and he has limited mobility so using his upper body for simple tasks like knocking blocks down is a good mode of activity.For christmas I purchased him this set (and his sister the sand filled set) and I felt the product that arrived was close enough to my expectation. They aren't cheap, but to add into say another more economical wooden block set, it really feels like a special toy. My kids don't sit and play with them for long, but I would guess that is due to their age, perhaps they are not quite old enough to do much apart from my help. The mirrors do get smudgy fairly easy, but I expected this. Kid fingers on mirrors... how could that not be the case? The mirrors do slide a bit within the wooden block/frame - no concern that they would fall out, but it wasn't expected. I don't have any complaints about the wood, it isn't really smooth but it... Overall I am not sorry that I bought the blocks and the 2 y/o boy who received them really likes playing with them. They are a neat idea and add some interest and dimension to our standard block sets.Now for the cons: 1. The wooden frame is not the high quality that I expected after owning the Plan toys water blocks. These blocks are compatible with the Plan toys water set because they are similar appearing, and they are the same sizes and shapes. However, the joints on the guidecraft blocks don't look solid and you can see spaces in between the pieces of wood. The wood is also not great quality when compared to the plan toys blocks. It is rough in some places and has not been sanded well. It's not so bad that I am concerned about splinters; it just isn't the luxurious smooth suface that one would find in the Plan blocks.
